Early this year I realized that I was at a weight and shape that was not good for my health or for my family. That precepitated the change. Year-to-date, I have lost weight and have completed 2 half marathons. (The resume includes the the St. Louis track Club Half marathon in March and The Spirit of St. Louis Half Marathon in April - I have street cred...you can look it up!).

The other 5 Slow Runners are my closest friends from my time at Washington University. For the last few years, we have all said "We need to get together" or "Man, I am turning into a fat ___, I gotta drop some weight". This event accomplishes both things.

Sounds goofy, but to be able to accomplish this goal with friends - lifelong friends, is why Chicago 2006 is so important to me.

The two things I know from this experience, running has become an integral part of my life - as a way to reduce stress and improve health. The second - even the stout, balding guy from St. Louis can make a change and run with the best of them!
